CASE STUDY I
For several weeks, the neighbors of Mr.Lal (name changed), who was 79 years old, noticed that he had bruises, cuts and scrapes on all over his visible parts of body. Mr. Lal always had some specious explanation for all these and, moreover knowing that he was the only caretaker of his wife, who was a heart patient and was 60 years old, they did not press the issue. He had only a son and his wife living with them. A hospital social worker finally contacted an NGO, dedicated to the elderly people, after Mr. Lal drove himself to a hospital emergency room which was over 30 km far away from his home, because of many fractures to his right arm. The social worker, after that, found out that Mr. Lal was being beaten constantly by his son's wife, but still he was protecting her.
CASE STUDY II
Mrs. Sarita (name changed), a kidney patient, was brought and admitted to the local hospital by her neighbor who became worried after not seeing her for several days. Mrs. Sarita then finally told the staff members of the hospital that she needed dialysis several days ago and she also had given the required money to her grandson for her dialysis. But he did not return, and Mrs. Sarita did not inform her family members because she didn't want to get in trouble.
CASE STUDY III
Mr. Asif constantly complained his physician for his increasing frequency of pain. But his physician argued that the methadone he has prescribed should be working and should control the pain. The physician suspected that it can be a case of wrong medication. He investigated and found out that Mr. Asif's son who prepared all the medications every day replaced those medicines with same size and color potassium tablets, so that his father could not recover from his illness and he can have entire control over his father's property.
CASE STUDY IV
Leap of Faith:-
26th Jan 2001,the date itself reminds us of
the drastic earthquake that shook the Kuchch and Bhuj region of Gujarat. Harish Bhai Patel (name changed) reputed businessman
suffered the biggest loss of his life when he lost his family, friends, business
and above all his identity. He survived because he was out of town. Some
relatives showed sympathy and called him to Jodhpur (Rajasthan) to live the rest of his
life. But destiny had something else in store for him and while coming to Jodhpur, he fell off from
the train and lost his legs. He was admitted in hospital where his treatment went
on for 4 months but no relatives turned up to see him, and eventually he was asked
to leave the hospital. Seeing to it that he had no where to go the Hospital Administration
called up the “Anubandh Old Age Home”. And he has been here since then living a
comfortable life.
CASE STUDY V
An Elderly couple lived together and one day the wife expired. The husband felt sad but consoled himself by thinking that he had his two sons to look after him. But in this human society a man is judged by the money he has which he didn’t. So he became a burden on them. The daughter-in-laws took turns to give him food, which was given in an inhuman manner i.e. by putting the 2 chapattis in a paper which was crushed and thrown on him, which he had to grab in a towel. As they had no time to go and give him food as well as wash his utensils. This is a story of Elite class. In frustration he left his own home and came to Old Age Home - Anubandh
CASE STUDY VI
She Shakeela an 84 years old Elderly women from a small village in jhunjhunun district. Her husband was in Army who died long back and her only son too died early. She is a pensioner. Before sometime she was living with her grandson peacefully, but his only grandson started consuming liquor, he doesnot work and asks money from her grandmother, is she refuses to give then he sells one or the other thing from house. Recently he sold Shakeela's land and bought a bike and took rest of the money himself. Her grandson is living in her house, aware of all these Shakeela's sister asked her to live with her. Now Shakeela is living with her sister in spite of owning a house.
I was spellbound after reading Case Study 4th, It was really a fall of faith for that man.
