A Miraculous Past

This is a picture of a survivor from the holocaust. His name is Elie Wiesel. Up until the age of 15 he lived a comfortable life with his family, but after that his life took a turn. Having such a terrifying and horrible past, Elie Wiesel shares his story with us today. He swore to himself that he would keep quiet about what he had to endure in his life, about the historical tragedy that he survived. But because someone asked he opened up which led us to a gate into the past. There are so many people in the world who have stories about their past to share. All we need to do is ask. Take the time to go and ask and you will be surprised at what you will learn.

A Heart Touching Story

An 80 year old man was sitting on the sofa in his house along with his 45 years old highly educated son. Suddenly a crow perched on their window.
The Father asked his Son, What is this?
The Son replied It is a crow
After a few minutes, the Father asked his Son the 2nd time, What is this?
The Son said Father, I have just now told you It's a crow
After a little while, the old Father again asked his Son the 3rd time,
What is this?
At this time some ex-pression of irritation was felt in the Sons tone when he said to his Father with a rebuff. It's a crow, a crow
A little after, the Father again asked his Son t he 4th time, What is this?
This time the Son shouted at his Father, Why do you keep asking me the same question again and again, although I have told you so many times IT IS A CROW. Are you not able to understand this?
A little later the Father went to his room and came back with an old tattered diary, which he had maintained since his Son was born. On opening a page, he asked his Son to read that page. When the son read it, the following words were written in the diary :-
Today my little son aged three was sitting with me on the sofa, when a crow was sitting on the window. My Son asked me 23 times what it was, and I replied to him all 23 times that it was a Crow. I hugged him lovingly each time h e asked me the same question again and again for 23 times. I did not at all feel irritated I rather felt affection for my innocent child.
While the little child asked him 23 times What is this, the Father had felt no irritation in replying to the same question all 23 times and when today the Father asked his Son the same question just 4 times, the Son felt irritated and annoyed.
So..
If your parents attain old age, do not repulse them or look at them as a burden, but speak to them a gracious word, be cool, obedient, humble and kind to them. Be considerate to your parents. From today say this aloud,

I want to see my parents happy forever. They have cared for me ever since I was a little child. They have always showered their selfless love on me.
They crossed all mountains and valleys without seeing the storm and heat to make me a person presentable in the society today.
Say a prayer to God, I will serve my old parents in the BEST way. I will say all good and kind words to my dear parents, no matter how they behave.

Nutrition Notes: Some symptoms chalked up to old age could be due to vitamin B12 deficiency

Muscle weakness, Incontinence, vision problem, forgetfulness, mood disturbances, unsteady gait are some common symptoms which is found in Elderly People. In actual fact, deficiency of vitamins B12 can cause the symptoms mentioned above.

Because, it is present in many food and food items like beef, milk, fortified breakfast cereal, on an average this micro-soluble vitamin is taken as 3.4 micrograms whereas is 2.4 micrograms is the Recommended Dietary Allowance for adults.

From 1.5% to 15% deficient in this nutrient are those who do not have vitamin B12 efficiently in US and that is all because of medical condition.

As this vitamin is primarily found of vegetarians, animal products and vegans turn towards fortified breakfast cereals, nutritional yeast products for vitamin B12.

Elderly people are at great risk due to deficiency of vitamin B12 because 10 to30 percent of Elderly suffer from atrophic gastritis, condition in which stomach acid is reduced.

For the absorption of B12, hydrochloric acid is needed in stomach. There are many other condition which  can effect the absorption of B12 like pernicious anemia, celiac disease, crohn’s disease and gastric surgery.

Most of Seniors may need higher dose of Vitamin B12 as they are mostly on medications. Prilosec, Prevacid, Tagamet, Pepcid and Zautac, used to treat gastroesophageal reflux of gastric acid into the stomach. Metformin may reduce the absorption of B12 in 10 to 30 % among those who take it because it is used for treatment of diabetes.

Elderly people have low income, which usually causes less intake of meat or other sources of vitamin B12. And even if they can afford meat, any physical disability or depression, improper dentition may prevent them from cooking meals and instead relying on cereals and toasts. And even educed appetite can contribute to same as well.

So, if nest time any Elderly family member is acting or behaving differently, do take them to physician for examine purpose. Many of symptoms are being accepted as a part of aging but they don’t have to be. Hitherto ask and encourage them to have a balanced diet.
